In 1976 Lloyd Robertson left CBC, where he had been anchor of The National, since 1970, and joined Harvey Kirck as co-anchor of the CTV National News. A new set and theme song debuted to coincide with the change, and the theme remained in use until the late 1980s when the newscast expanded from 20 minutes to half an hour. Heard above in its entirety is the theme music, which was actually composed for the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Its full title is "Ballet 'Homage to the Athletes' Rock Movement."
Here it is in use on CTV:
It was also used by CBMT Montreal and also saw a bit of usage in the United States.
